What types of drug treatment facilities are available?

If you currently face drug charges, it may help to attend a drug treatment program. Many people with drug charges have a substance abuse disorder and you may look more favorable if you take the necessary steps to end your relationship with recreational drugs.

According to WebMD, there are three types of treatment facilities to consider.

Sober living facilities

Sober living facilities are transitional living facilities. These are facilities where you learn how to integrate into society and everyday life without drug addiction. You learn to uphold a stable living environment and how to cope. Generally, these facilities have rules and meetings but allow residents to stay as long as necessary.

Detox facilities

Withdrawal is one of the most challenging hurdles when it comes to drug treatment. When you arrive at a medically assisted detox facility, you can withdraw safely. Many people relapse before the drugs exit their system because of the severe withdrawal symptoms. As your body tries to eliminate toxins, it can make you sick. In some cases, abruptly quitting can be fatal.

The medicine at these facilities helps counter the symptoms of withdrawal. Those who go to detox facilities do not relapse as often as those who do not.

Residential facilities

Residential facilities are traditional rehabs. You enter a residential facility for one to three months. The staff helps keep you away from any triggers that may cause you to relapse at the facility. Generally, those who enter residential facilities have a long history of substance abuse and find a supportive environment within the treatment center. You have 24-7 access to care, therapy sessions and a community that understands the struggles you face.

Throughout recovery, you may find yourself in any one of the three facilities or all three at varying points.
