Help is available to individuals facing drug charges in Texas. In a Texas community northwest of the Edinburg area a man was recently arrested on drug charges based on an anonymous tip. According to authorities, they received an anonymous tip about an alleged drug dealer. The anonymous tip led to the arrest of a 30-year old man for allegedly selling drugs out of an apartment. Authorities searched the man’s home and allegedly found 21 baggies containing cocaine in the man’s vehicle.
While searching, authorities allegedly found 32.8 grams of cocaine with an estimated value on the street of $3,672. Authorities noted their belief that because of how the drugs were packaged, they believed they were going to be sold on the street. The man was charged with possession of a controlled substance and other charges as well. As this blog has discussed in the past, drug charges are serious criminal charges and based on how the drugs are found and if there is any paraphernalia found, drug possession and drug trafficking charges may follow.
Individuals accused of drug charges need to be familiar with their criminal defense rights and options. It is important that the rights of the accused individuals are preserved and that authorities follow all the necessary procedures designed to protect the rights of accused individuals. Individuals accused of drug charges should evaluate the facts and circumstances and ensure any search and arrest were lawful and valid and evaluate the alleged facts including any testing performed on the alleged substance. Additionally, certain protections may apply in circumstances of an anonymous tip.
The criminal justice system affords protections to accused individuals who have been charged with drug offenses or any other crime. To assert these protections, accused individuals must know how to assert their rights and develop a strong criminal defense strategy based on the situation and circumstances.
