She is a 39-year-old English teacher in McAllen. He is a 16-year-old student at the IDEA public school there.
Law enforcement officials allege that the teacher had sex with the student. She was recently arrested on a charge of Improper Relationship Between Educator and Student and booked into the Hidalgo County Jail.
McAllen police said they recovered approximately 5,000 texts between the teacher and student, including at least one that was described as "vulgar."
Officials say that the student admitted to his mother that he was in a sexual relationship with the teacher. According to multiple news reports, the teen told law enforcement authorities that he went to the teacher's McAllen house more than once to "perform sexual acts."
The woman was reportedly fired from her job at the school following the police investigation and her arrest. "The employee in question has been on administrative leave as authorities conducted an investigation, and has since been released from IDEA Public Schools," according to a statement from school officials.
If she is convicted of the second-degree felony, she would face a sentence that could range from two years to 20 years in a Texas prison.
