Texas pastor charged with sexual assault of a child

by | Jun 13, 2017 | Sex Crimes |

A little more than 4 hours north of Edinburg, an associate pastor at a Texas church has been arrested by law enforcement authorities after a 2-month search and investigation. The 59-year-old man is a pastor at an east Austin church.

The pastor with Betania Baptist Church has been charged with sexual assault of a child.

The suspect is from Buda, a town south of Austin. He was arrested there by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force a few days ago.

According to an Austin TV station, a warrant was issued for the suspect in connection with an alleged sexual assault of a child in Corpus Christi two years ago. The article states that the man also has a warrant from Hays County, where he lives.

A grand jury there indicted him on 2 counts of sexual assault of a child, as well as a single count of indecency with a child by sexual contact. That indictment stems from an investigation launched early last year.

These kinds of charges are among the most serious a person can face in our state. There is a very real possibility of a long prison sentence upon conviction, as well a requirement that the person would have to register for life as a sex offender.

Those possibilities make it vital that a defendant’s rights are protected by a qualified criminal defense attorney at every step of the legal process.
