If you drive northeast of Edinburg along the Gulf Coast, you will come to the north Houston suburb of Spring, Texas. The city was recently the site of a burglary arrest that grabbed national media attention.
The alleged burglars were hauling away the property of an alleged methamphetamine dealer, law enforcement officials said. The male and female burglars, both 36 years old, were trying to steal nearly $1 million of meth-laced lollipops and other candies, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The news article on the arrests said the woman has been charged with possession of a controlled substance. It did not say if the man faced a similar charge.
Police said that inside the home, they found meth-filled candies shaped to look like Batman, Yoda and R2D2.
A police spokesperson speculated in a Facebook post that the drug-candies were being packaged to sell to “children and/or sold to juveniles.”
Officials said they suspect that the woman had previously lived in the home she and her accomplice are accused of burglarizing. They do not believe she and the man made the candies, but that they think the drugs were made inside the residence.
Police said that by seizing the drugs, they prevented distribution to potential customers. Photos distributed by law enforcement showed bags of the drug-candies, along with close-up images of meth-laced lollipops.
