Teen charged in fatal hit-and-run crash in Edinburg

by | Dec 12, 2019 | Car Accidents |

In Texas and other states across the nation, roadways can be very busy places. However, the late night and early morning hours are less likely to experience much traffic if any at all. Even though there are fewer vehicles on the roadways during these hours, this does not mean car accidents do not happen. In fact, this timeframe is when there is the greatest concern for fatigued and intoxicated motorists.

According to recent reports, a young motorist from Alamo was charged for a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred in late July. The 17-year-old has plead not guilty after being accused of hitting and killing a 46-year-old man and fleeing the scene of the accident.

Based on the investigative reports by the Texas Department of Transportation, the blue Chevrolet Silverado driven by the teen rear-ended the 2006 Yamaha XVZ12 driven by the deceased victim. This occurred in the 1300 block of West Frontage Road in Edinburg.

This rear collision caused the truck to hit the rear bumper of the motorcycle then run over the motorcyclist. Reports indicate that the man remained stuck under the bumper of the truck until the bumper and the man fell off in the 1400 block of West Frontage Road. The man did not survive the injuries suffered in the crash.

It was also reported that the brother of the driver was charged with evidence tampering. Investigators discovered that parts of the vehicle were removed to impede the investigation of the hit-and-run crash. No further details of the fatal accident are available at this time.

The aftermath of a car accident can be both shocking and traumatic. Losing a loved one in a fatal crash is a difficult event to cope with. Thus, it is important that surviving family members understand their rights when it comes to filing a wrongful death action following a fatal crash caused by a negligent driver. This civil action could help provide compensation for losses such as medical bills, funeral costs, lost wages, loss of companionship and other related damages.
