Edinburg area men arrested after posing for cocaine photo

by | May 18, 2017 | Federal Crimes |

A Rio Grande Valley TV station reports that some area men might regret the urge to capture a moment. The men were arrested at a home near Edinburg, officials said.

After they were taken into custody as part of a cocaine trafficking investigation, the homeowner told law enforcement officers that the men had the night before been there dividing a kilogram of coke. Officials said that when they searched the contents of a cell phone seized during the arrests, they found a photo of the three men cutting up the kilogram.

Agents with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration said that based on a tip from an informant, they began surveilling the house near Edinburg. A federal criminal complaint states that agents watched a white car arrive at the home and then be driven off about 15 minutes later with a passenger now onboard.

Agents followed the car to a convenience store where the men in the car apparently signaled the driver of a blue pick-up truck. The driver of that vehicle then left the store and drove to the house.

The driver apparently spotted approaching police and tried to leave, but was stopped by an Edinburg officers.

All three men were then taken into custody. Officials spoke with the woman who said she owns the house and lives there with her boyfriend (one of the men arrested). She gave police permission to search the property; they found 3.8 kilograms of cocaine in a bedroom.

The trio now all faces charges of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine.
